About Author

Accidental and inflicted burns need to be differentiated. Common sources of burns are hot liquids or solid objects, flames and chemicals. The distribution and location of the burn is examined. Intentional burns usually involve feet, legs, hands and buttocks whereas accidental burns are more often seen on the face, head, neck, palm and front of the body. Symmetrical burns on both sides of the body are also suspicious. Cigarette burns and those caused by a branding tool, or kitchen object can be identified.
