Transient ballooning of the foreskin during voiding is usually benign. However, if this ballooning or urinary retention can only be resolved after applying manual pressure, the parent or care provider should seek medical attention. In all other cases, parents should be assured about this benign condition which will resolve over time as there is increasing retractability of the foreskin. In case of adhesion (phimosis) with foreskin ballooning, trial of four to eight weeks course of topical corticosteroids (eg, 0.05% betamethasone cream) can be applied directly to the preputial outlet twice daily.
