Account of how the trauma happened should be consistent with the findings. Thus fractures of arms and legs are not likely to be accidental in an infant who is not walking. Fractures from abusive trauma often include ribs, scapula, spinous processes and  sternum. Metaphyseal lesions and multiple fractures in different stages of healing are also suspicious. Whole body x-ray films may be necessary in infants.
