Simethicone is a medication that causes gas bubbles to coalesce, facilitating expulsion, which is commonly used by many pediatricians for infantile colic. However, two systematic reviews in the year 2016 found little evidence to support its use in the treatment of infantile colic. Simethicone is generally considered to be safe, but it may interact with levothyroxine in infants being treated for congenital hypothyroidism resulting in undertreatment.
