Influenza accounts for 20-42% of monthly acute medical illnesses in India during seasonal peaks. Influenza incidence in children below 5 years of age from developing countries is three times higher than those from developed countries, with a 15-fold higher case-fatality The Influenza Serotype-B is reported almost round the year in India. There is continuous influenza activity across the nation, with seasonal peaks during monsoon and winter.


Flu vaccine schedule recommended by IAP


Quadrivalent/Trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine is recommended by IAP to all children between 6 months to 5 years of age. It is started as two doses (0.25 ml dose ) at the interval of one month and one dose annually up to 5 years of age. Beyond 3 years of age, a dose of 0.5 ml is recommended.
