- IGRA and Tuberculin Skin Test (TST) both suggest TB infection and hence provide nearly the same information.
- Neither IGRA or TST can accurately predict risk of infected individuals developing active TB disease. Also neither can be used for diagnosis of active TB disease.
- Sensitivity of IGRAs not better than TST. In addition they are more costly and technically complex. There is limited data on use of IGRA in children below 5years of age.
- Hence it is recommended by the WHO and RNTCP that we continue to use TST.
