And this depth of insertion is best measured by measuring nasal septum to tragus length (NTL)in both preterm and term babies. The estimated insertion is calculated as NTL +1cmfrom the upper lip of the neonate.

Estimating tube length to be inserted as per formula weight (kgs) + 6 cmsmay lead to ETT to be inserted too far particularly in ELBW babies
