Of all the drugs available to treat allergic rhinitis, nasal steroids have maximum efficacy in improving all the associated symptoms including nasal obstruction. The onset of action is 48 hours. More potent than antihistaminics and oral decongestants. Recommended for moderate to severe allergic rhinitis. Fluticasone furoate and mometasone are recommended above 2 years of age in USA. Beclamethasone nasal spray is recommended for children above 6 years.
While administering a nasal spray, tilt the neck slightly forward and not backwards.
