Pediculosis capitis is the most common form of lice to affect children and usually affects those between 3 and 12 years of age. Head-lice therapy is recommended for individuals diagnosed with an active infestation, and prophylactic therapy is recommended for bed-mates and close contacts.
The standard of care is application of 1% permethrin cream rinse to mildly damp hair, followed by rinsing 10minutes later. It can be repeated again in 7-10days. It can be used in children >2months of age.
Oral ivermectin in the dose of 200µg/kg in a single dose. Can repeat the dose in 1-2 weeks. To be used only in children above 5 years of age .
