Dear Readers,

Inconvenience regretted due to an editing error in matter submitted by Dr Gaurav Agrawal in the preceeding mailers today morning.

Please read the revised content as below, which corrects regarding the age of closure of a small PDA and also clarifies on moderate sized PDA.

  • A small VSD can be followed upto 4 to 5 years of age as patient’s growth is not hampered due to the lesion itself.
  • A small PDA should be closed by 1-2 years of age
  • A moderate sized VSD with dilated left ventricle with adequate growth of the child can wait for a closure till 1-2 years of age depending upon other symptoms of the child related to increased pulmonary flow.
  • Likewise, a moderate sized PDA which is causing clinical symptoms should be considered for an early closure, even if age less than a year.
  • A large VSD/PDA, should be closed by 3-6 months of age
