For Acute flares use higher-potency topical steroids to gain rapid control only. Least-potent corticosteroid that is effective should be used to minimize the risk of adverse effects & should be used for these sites : eyelids, face, axillae, groins and inner thighs. Apply twice a day.

For maintenance have proactive approach. Use intermittently 1-2 times/wk on areas that commonly flare.

Potency of steroid:

  • Low :        Desonide, Hydrocortisone
  • Medium : Fluticasone, Mometasone, Fluocinolone
  • High :      Clobetasol, Betamethasone

Oral steroids: Should be used only in short courses to tide over the crises in doses of 0.5 to 1.0 mg/kg/daily
