In newborns, cremasteric reflex is absent. If you cannot feel a testis in the scrotum it is unlikely to be a retractile testis. This documentation in newborn is important when you are examining the child for undescended testis at a later stage. If you have not felt the testis in the scrotum but the records says that it was felt after birth chances are it is a retractile testis and not a an undescended testis. Check carefully again.
